Position summary: The
Director of Stewardship Programs is the University’s senior stewardship specialist, responsible for developing standards,
procedures, and tools that enable a community of decentralized fund-raising units to act with consistency and to effectively
coordinate acknowledgement, recognition, and reporting activities so that the donor’s experience with U-M is of the
highest quality and as consistent as possible. In addition, the director will also serve as personal steward and/or executive
liaison with VIP donors requiring special handling.
Characteristic duties and responsibilities: 80% Leadership of U-M Stewardship Program - Provides strategic direction to a comprehensive stewardship function, including gift receipting,
gift acknowledgment, donor recognition, and stewardship reporting.
- Evaluates effectiveness, quality, and efficiency of all aspects of stewardship programs on an ongoing basis with
an eye for opportunities for quality enhancement of the donor experience
at U-M.
- Ensures appropriate level of product development
to support overall stewardship of donors and their contributions. This includes development of processes and products
that support individual school, college, and unit stewardship
efforts as well as those that are implemented across the institution.
- Develops standards and guidelines for university-wide donor stewardship practices and ensures their communication
and implementation, including OUD infrastructure to support that implementation.
- Collaborates with leadership of other OUD and U-M department, such
as Development Services, OUD Talent Management and Financial Administration, and U-M Financial Operations to ensure systems and tools are in place to support outstanding stewardship practices.
- Oversees creation and quality control of OUD communications that support
comprehensive gift receipting, acknowledgement and stewardship reporting.
- Working with fundraising officers at all gift levels, designs targeted programs that support
particular objectives, e.g. individualized VIP stewardship plans, financial and narrative reporting for endowed funds, marketing programs to promote increased or consistent giving, recognition events,
etc.
- Co-chairs a regular forum of stewardship
specialists with Director of Individual Stewardship, for discussion of strategy and sharing of best practices across 40+ individual
fund-raising units.
- Serves as a senior ombudsman and liaison for University executives or donors whose questions
require investigation into financial or data management matters.
- Serves as an expert resource for other university staff regarding practices for high-quality stewardship of donors,
alumni, and friends, including presentations, training, and consultation.
20% Staff Management - Provides
leadership and supervision to Stewardship Department staff, including hiring, performance evaluation, and coaching for performance.

appropriate delegation of responsibilities and projects to other staff.

responsible for the successful and timely execution and implementation of both and is vital in the creation of the Student
Giving Initiative. This position works directly with the Senior Associate Director of Marketing and Strategic Planning

activities. This position oversees the creation of development publications, including content selection, story assignments
for staff and freelancers, reporting and writing, editing as well as interaction with designers and photographers. The
senior writer also writes/edits copy for the giving website, annual giving appeals, fundraising proposals, presentations,
event invitations and related collateral. The position requires an ability to adapt to a variety of assignments and

Position summary: The Associate Director of Major Gifts’ primary responsibility is the identification,
cultivation and solicitation of individual prospects that live within a defined territory (the state of Michigan excluding
the Greater Detroit area) and are capable of making gift commitments of $100,000 or more. The Associate Director of
Major Gifts focuses on growing the pipeline of major gift donors in the region and assists the Director in overall budgeting,
planning and program management. Frequent travel is required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
• Advance individual relationships that result in philanthropic contributions: • Identify, qualify, and
manage a portfolio of approximately 200 prospects with capacity to make gifts of $100,000 and more. • Conduct 15-20 personal

Qualifications/Requirements: Ph.D. in Biology or related field. Postdoctoral experience preferred. Duties:
Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate courses in human and animal physiology and an upper division class in

Description
of the department: Biology currently has 15 full-time faculty with research and teaching interests in ecology, behavior, ecotoxicology,
physiology, genetics, immunology, microbiology, plant science, zoology and developmental biology.
The
department has over 400 undergraduate Biology majors and an active Masters program with about 40 students. We are housed in
the Science Building, opened in 1998. A greenhouse and head house are attached to the Science Building. We also have a 9,000
